Frozen Peričnik Waterfall in the winter
Peričnik Waterfall is located in the heart of the glacial valley Vrata, the Peričnik waterfall makes up for a great hike or bike trip opportunity. Although it has car parking available close by, one still has to ascend a rather steep path to reach the perfect vista point.
One of the unique characteristics of the Peričnik waterfall is that you can go round and right behind the waterfall, which is not something you can experience every day, especially with a majestic waterfall such as the Peričnik giant. The terrain around and behind the waterfall is is wet and slippery, so make sure you have good hiking shoes. If you feel like you want to explore further, there is in fact another smaller waterfall above the big (and most popular) one.
Peričnik falls are great a place to visit whole year round. In the autumn, mixed forest around the waterfall creates spectaular pallete of colours, so make sure you don’t forget your camera. In the winter, the water might freeze and create breathtaking (but deadly to stand under) curtain of icicles. It is obviously very slippery and care should be taken to have proper equipment and knowledge to use it.
