Savica waterfall from the parking lot at Camp Zlatorog in Ukanc
From Camp Zlatorog near Lake Bohinj there is a nicely marked footpath towards the waterfall. It will take us about an hour of relaxing walk to the foot of the waterfall.
Waterfall with the starting point Koča pri Savici
More popular and shorter, and thus more comfortable, is the path from the arranged parking lot at Dom Savica. From the parking lot for the Savica waterfall, the signpost leads us along the road towards a small log cabin, where we pay the entrance fee. Then we walk over the stone bridge over Mala Savica and up along a nicely arranged and marked path.
A special feature of this tourist route to the Savica Waterfall are the stairs. You will have to overcome as many as 553 steps to see the Savica waterfall in all its beauty ... In less than 20 minutes, the stairs will take you to a wooden pavilion, from where there is a beautiful view of the waterfall. The wooden pavilion also serves as protection against the sun on hot summer days, as well as on whimsical April days, when it rains for a while and the spring sun burns relentlessly for a while.
Hills
Starting point for mountain tours The Savica waterfall and the surrounding hills conjure up a truly wonderful ambience. The starting point for the Savica waterfall is also the starting point for mountain tours. Koča pri Savici is an excellent starting point for Komna and the Valley of the Seven Triglav Lakes.
Room
The mountain trail goes from Dom Savice on the left side (not to the waterfall) through Pekel (there is a beautiful marked path to Dom na Komni). Komna is a beautiful settlement, where Dom na Komni also stands and is a three-hour walk from the parking lot for the Savica waterfall. Komna is connected to the valley by a marked mountain path. From Dom na Komni, there are many marked mountain trails to various peaks, as well as a connecting trail to Bogatinski sedlo, Krn and Lepena.
The valley of the Triglav seven lakes
The marked mountain path at the hut crosses the bridge over the Savica and at the crossroads we follow the signs for Komarča. Following a steep and here and there exposed, but well-protected and extremely scenic path, we first reach the Black Lake and then continue the path to the hut at the Double Lake (4-5 hours of walking). This path across Komarča actually opens the door to the valley of the Triglav Seven Lakes, and on to the very heart of the Julian Alps and the Triglav National Park.
Weather
The Savica waterfall and the weather are closely connected: the more water there is, the more powerful the Savica waterfall is. We recommend a visit in nice, sunny weather, if possible, soon after the rainy season. That is when the Savica waterfall is most prosperous. A lot of water that flows over the wall of Komarča, as well as the higher water supply for the Savica waterfall, has a higher water level and thus conjures up a beautiful and mighty scene. The Savica waterfall is also mighty during autumn rains and early spring, when snow melts in the mountains.

Interesting facts and history
France Prešeren, a Slovenian poet, also used the Savica Waterfall for the famous poem Krst pri Savici. The Savica waterfall is supplied with water from the wider karst area of the 500 m higher Black Lake. Among the waterfalls in the world, the Savica is a special feature, as the water flow is already divided into two strands in the hidden underground. The lower-lying right, 25 m high beam flows through an underground fissure from the higher-lying lake in the explored underground tunnel. The left, 78 m high beam also flows at the height of the same underground tunnel, but from an adjacent lake into which water flows from that pond from which water seeps down into the lower right beam.
Savica is a karst spring, waterfall and stream that flows into Lake Bohinj. The Savica stream has two original branches: Velika Savica, on which the Savica waterfall is located, and Mala Savica, which is of a torrential nature and flows southwest of Velika Savica during the rainy season. In the vicinity of Koča pri Savici, they merge and run on under the common name Savica. Before emptying into Lake Bohinj, the torrent stream Ukanška Suha joins the stream. The water never dries up, and the most beautiful is the Savica waterfall after heavy rains and in the spring when the snow melts. If there is a lot of snow, the water also rises above the spring during the day, and then the water falls over the 600-meter-high waterfall.
Hike to Savica
In winter, the tourist trail to the Savica waterfall is also arranged, but it can be closed in case of ice or thick snow. In spring, the promenade to the Savica waterfall is opened with a traditional hike to the Savica waterfall. The Savica waterfall hike - The route from Ribčev Laz is 11 kilometers long, and 5 kilometers from Ukanc. For the way back, they organize bus transport..
