Mostnica Gorge in Bohinj
MOSTNICA GORGE MIGHT BE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL NATURAL SIGHTS OF BOHINJ
Korita Mostnice - Mostnica Gorge
The Mostnica Gorge and the Voje Valley hike are two beatutiful natural sights of Bohinj, which are among the most beautiful and most visited sights of the Triglav National Park or Bohinj. The troughs were formed in limestone by the mountain stream Mostnica, which originates in the Voje valley. The trip to the Mostnica Gorge offers us an insight into a beautiful gorge of boldly transformed rocks, crystal clear water, a diverse flora and fauna and cultural sights.

The Korita Mostnice walk description
The walk to Korita Mostnice or Mostnica gorge starts in Stara Fužina or a little further along the road, in the parking lot in front of the lock on the road to the mountain Blato. Stara Fužina is also a great starting point. At the beginning of the trail, there is a large board with a map and a marked trail, which is also marked by a signpost and individual markings. The point where we are located and other natural sights of Bohinj are also marked on the map.
Follow the path past the pasture, along the fence and on along the path. On the right, through the forest, we hear the murmur of water all the time when we soon reach the first famous bridge.
Devil's Bridge
The Devil's Bridge is a stone bridge over Mostnica near Stara Fužina, which was built in 1777 by Baron Žiga Zois to facilitate the transport of raw materials and products of his ironworks. It provides access from Stara Fužina to Pokljuka across the Voje mountain. (source: Wikipedia)
From the Devil's Bridge we can admire a deeply transformed rock gorge, at the bottom of which flows the crystal clear Mostnica. There are also wooden benches by the bridge for rest and enjoyment. On the left (west) side of the bridge, ie the same side on which we came from the parking lot, we continue along the path, which can be traced and marked with yellow markings. We soon arrive at a wooden house, where the entrance fee for the Mostnica Gorge is paid. From here we suggest a circle in a counter-clockwise direction, so at the house we turn right, over another bridge. From the panoramic path along the troughs, which leads along a forest path with many bends, where we can approach the water, we can observe interesting natural creations. Pools, waterfalls, ravines, interestingly hollowed-out depressions and smaller rapids. Of particular interest is the rock, which has been overcome by the ravages of time with constant smoothing of the water. Her name was Elephant.
Korita Mostnice and Voje Valley
At this point we can decide and continue towards the Voja valley and the waterfall (the source of Mostnica). The Voje Valley is a logical continuation of the visit to the Mostnica Gorge. If time allows, a visit to the Voje Valley is highly recommended. Otherwise, we return to the west bank of Mostnica via another bridge. Along the way, this time I continue downstream, back to the south and our starting point. Stara Fužina has some nice bars where you can refresh yourself.
Korita Mostnice parking
The Mostnica Korita parking lot is available in front of the lock at the beginning of the road towards the Blato mountain near Stara Fužina. The price of parking for Korita Mostnice depends on the duration of your tour, but we suggest that you take at least 2 hours. Parking for Korita Mostnice and the availability of other parking as well as the price list is available on an excellent interactive display of Parking in Bohinj.
Korita Mostnice in winter
In the dry winter, when there is no snow, the Korita Mostnice can be especially interesting. There is no entrance fee in the winter or it is free. It should be noted, however, that the path can be very slippery, sometimes icy due to the many smaller streams that cross the path and freeze. However, if there is snow on the way, orientation can also be difficult. Mostnica riverbeds are therefore more suitable for experienced hikers accustomed to walking in the snow. Great care must be taken, especially not to approach the edge of the troughs due to the risk of slipping.
